Bionicle MOC: Turaga Kumignasi by 3rdeye88 Bionicle MOC: Turaga Kumignasi by 3rdeye88
About the MOC
"Kun Ignasi" when translated from Turkish means "Sand Sting." Here though its all one word-"Kunignasi"

Kunignasi is the 5th part of a little(:giggle:) project I created when I realized that along with Hyderbawl , Aumangea , Tipuna , and Leebos I had four of the 6 elements in smaller characters, so I decided to fill out the team by creating a Turaga of stone, and a jungle agori, Enzi. The team is comprised of two of the three types of bionicle villager, 2 Matoran(Aumangea and Hyderbawl), two Turaga(Tipuna and Kumignasi), and two Agori(Leebos and Enzi).

I must give a small shoutout to :iconalex-darkrai: for the use of the Onewa Hordika mask as back armor/bulk because I got the idea directly from his Golem.

bio
Kumignasi is Po-turaga who became a turaga after the reforming of Spherus Magna. Being a Po-Turaga, he resides in parts of Bara Magna still left as desert regions with other Po-Matoran and Toa. As a Matoran, Kumignasi migrated to Baramagna the same as most other inhabitants of the Matorna Universe. He became a Toa many years after the reformation, by which time many other toa from the Matoran Universe had been killed or became turaga themselves. His duty was more simple, to be a protector of the Po-matoran, and to try and reverse the effects of the devolved Vorox on Bara magna with the help of the sustained un-devolved Vorox from Bota Magna and charged with assisting in this specific Agor/matoran relations formation. However Kumignasi was unsuccessful in his attempts to bring the devolved Vorox back to a state of intelligence or at least relatable states. They continued to remain beastly savages, and were thus treated like hostile rahi instead of agor. The Bota Magnan Vorox while remaining isolated became tentative allies of the Matoran/agori alliances. Kumignasi took it upon himself that the re-evolution of the Vorox was his greatest mission. Being unable to do so, he thought himself a failure as part of the legacy of toa before him, though most other's didn't hold this to be quite so true.

As a Turaga "Kumi" as he was commonly referred to lived a more quiet life, not really taking charge of things as that was mostly carried out by other toa, agori leaders or Turaga from other villages. He Settled for a life of tinkering, inventing building and creating new tools, vehicles and other such things for the betterment of Matoran and Agori as most Po-Matoran were skilled builders and crafters, Kumi was no exception.
Wanting a vehicle that could travel the vast expanses of the Bara Magnan deserts and other regions, Kumignasi invented a prototype of The Innenrrad. It was later put into full production as a commercially available vehicle by other Matoran and agori, one of which was eventually traded to Melanthios .
While test driving his own Innenrrad, Kumignasi suffered a near fatal crash when he lost control of the vehicle. The crash extensively damaged his head, and tore off his right arm. Fortunately for him, he didn't venture out alone when testing the Innenrrad's long distance capabilities and the Matoran and Agori that followed in another vehicle rushed him To Tajun where most Ga-matoran, to and water tribe agori lived. The Ga-Matoran and Turagas were skilled healers but were only able to do so much for the mortally wounded Turaga. Tipuna aided in Kumi's recovery. With her help, and his resources at his home/garage, he was able to create a working right arm, scoping eye and other various mechanical solutions to solve the problems created by his injuries. While he didn't lose sight completely in his left eye, he wasn't able to regain functionality of it, but was able to enhance the functionality of his right eye, such as man Ko-Matoran have.
Kumi's personality could be characterized as being "an oddball." After his perceived failures as a Toa, he thinks very little of himself or his abilities as a turaga or inventor, even though most regard his creations as brilliant or very helpful. While not terribly isolated, he does spend much of his time alone in his garage tinkering away on new projects, or repairing old ones. His "relationship" with technology and machinery is often regarded by other po-matoran as second to none. As a result, many of the agori who at one point weren't able to create or craft new things seek his tutelage in crafting, repairing, sculpting and inventing. Though Kumi brushes such clamor off as "intense demand with very little supply. I'm only doing what any Po-matoran would do." While initially discouraged and depressed from his injuries, and being rather "deformed" from his mechanical additions, he eventually realized they only helped him at his trade even more, becoming well adjusted and happy with his mechanical implants. "I wouldn't go back to my old form even if I could. Mata Nui himself would have to deem it necessary."[Chuckles].
Kumi's weapon/turaga staff is what he calls "Vorox's Bane," a weapon that ironically wasn't created by him. :P

What I find appealing about this Po-Turaga, is how unorthodox his design is. The only symmetrical part of his body is the torso and legs. He has a completely different design to the others you made, and what I like most about Kunignasi is his head.

His head isn't as expected, in some aspects. He has only one eye, and the scope ability of his right eye is quite correct in Bionicle canon; a lot of Ko-Matoran often did attach an eyepiece to their masks to gaze at the stars or to regain sight loss.

I also like the functionality of the robotic arm, with it having aseemingly different connection. Another point I'd like to make is how you stayed true to the colour scheme.

What I don't like however, is his legs. I know he's a Turaga, but they look a little frail. Then again, that could have been caused by his accident.

All in all, he's a nice little MOC, who isn't overly complicated, and has a good background story.

Sorry no. I don't do instructions. I encourage you to make your own MOC inspired by my idea, or even your own version of my MOC, so long as you notify me that you're doing it and give me credit. But, no I don't make instructions of my MOCs.

Oh right. His staff gun. I see what you mean. Every Turaga has a tool or something to indicate they're turaga. I call it Vorox's bain, cause in his bio he tried to revive the Vorox from savage beasts but failed, so he just kills them when they attack. :P

I gotta say, I really like this one and the green guy a lot better than the others, I think they have better shapes and details that don't conflict with the overall contours and curves of the moc, which is my main beef with the other four. I think you could have figured out a way to have better symmetry on the staff. The proportions are also a bit off IMO, I think you should have left a stud off the upper legs. Finally, on the head, the way one triangle covers the eye, and the other accommodates it, it makes it look like one was lopsided during photography, so I think he should have had two eyes.

All complaining aside, I do like him :)

Thanks Grayson. I'm sorry though, all your complaints with Kumi are actually things I did intentionally. First off, proportions are always an option, not necessity. The fact that you're complaining about proportions on a canon bionicle character type is moot. Bionicle characters all have whacked proportions. Then beyond that, lopsided asymmetry was the whole point with Kumi. The triangle parts naturally sit that way on him. Its sorta like an eye patch. Imagine having one eye that works but very poorly that its better to just cover it up and use your one good eye, that's what's going on with Kumi. Did you read his bio? Cause I did mention the parts about his eyes.

I do agree that Kumi and Enzi look much better than the other four. What can I say, I had some practice with smaller figure building prior to these two, and I guess that shows.

Well I don't read bios :P

And my argument with proportions is always that sure, you can play around with proportions, but there's proportions that we, as humans, think look better than others, and also from our experience in media, etc, whatever. I'd probably have something a lot more meaningful to say about it if I took some art classes, but fuck that :P

But to each his own.

That might have helped you figure out what was going on. :P

Eh not really. Turagas are stubby hunched over people with massive hands and feet. Its thinking like that that makes MOCers linear and uncreative. Proportions can be what ever we want, but we do generally fall into a typical archetype when it comes to proportions, typical toa, proportional toa or titan, brutes, lanky, etc.

I love this thing so much :D I might critique it later. So many neat ideas packed into a small package. His extending arm also reminds me of the Transformer Scrounge. I also love the mask idea, and that you didn't just fall back on the visor piece for that mask

Me to man, he came together so easily, both the MOC and the story. So what ideas do you think are neat? Who's scrounge? Link please? Half masks are the best freakin thing man. I love em. I wish lego did more of them. Yeah the visor wasn't even a consideration. I was trying to use Photok mask first, but then switched it up to the Pohatu Phantoka mask, that left all kinds of room for other cool stuff, like a telescopic eye and greeblies all over the place. The color scheme led to the innenrrad association, which lead to me coming up with the idea that he was in a bad crash, and that lead to the hyper lopsided asymmetry and mechanical nature of his head. I think I already had the extending arm, which is what lead me to "crash."

Scrounge was a throwaway character in The Transformers Marvel comics. He appeared in one issue. I drew the parallel because of his extending arm and head.
I specifically like the stuff you added onto the mask that made Kumignasi look really unique. Along with the mechanical stuff, and the extending arm. I really think this is your best of your Agori/Turaga/Matoran MOCs. Though I'm still waiting for a Rahaga or Bohrok Va ;)
I also like the association with the Innenrrad, I would like to see how he looks in the seat of one. I assume he fits because he's fairly small

Ah I see. I've seen the extending arms thing in other stuff, but I can't quite place what. :P

Ahh i see. I think this is also why he's my fave, came out good and it was easy and natural to get there. Hmmm I guess I'll have to see what I can do for my buddy. :pat:

He fits but he's actually too short, and the axle of his extending arm points backwards when not extended and makes him hard to fit into the seat. I didn't try too hard though.
The thing is, I figured that after his crash, he didn't want anything to do with the Innenrrad and wouldn't drive one. Its that whole traumatized irrational fear thing.

hmm, Inspector Gadget? He had an extending arm.
Aww, that's too bad :( He would've made a cool driver for the Innenrrad. Despite others opinion I like the concept of Melanthios as the driver, however he's due for a revamp. He should be a little more custom, though I did like his hoof design.

AH that's who I was thinking of the other night. I forgot who it was. I knew it was someone specific. yeah Inspector Gadget had extending limbs and head.

I completely agree. That's why Melanthios has been dismantled and when I get a package from :iconwdenniz: I'll be revamping melly now that I have a gajillion ball joints and could make Melly look not lame. You said that before, that you liked his hooves. I like V1's hooves more but those will be to big, and besides. I plan on making Atlas again since I theoretically can tie both of them into the story, and Melly and Atlas are brothers. A big Satyr and a little Satyr, why not? :D

Nah, I don't see the reason to. Atlas is supposed to be huge, he's Atlas after all, the Mythological Titan that held the world on his back. And Melly has to fit into the Innenrrad. :P I think the fact that they'd be so contrasting, yet related will look cool when they're together.

 Thanks Gale. :D I think Kumi here is my favorite of the set. I had almost no trouble getting him to "work." He was fun, a little challenging but not a struggle. Everything about Kumi, inclucing his story just went together. The MOC happened, the mask, then I realized its almost identical to the Innenrrad's color scheme, and that gave me a great reason for why he's got one eye, a mechanical arm and a bunch of techno junk on his head. I also love I straight up used a Toa Metru arm for his left arm...and no one mentioned anything.

Enzi was the hard one of the two. His legs proved difficult as they needed to be small and I didn't want to reuse Kumis or Lebos' leg designs.
