The red Onua Nuva mask really stood out to me and after looking at it for a bit I noticed that it looked rather similar to a tiki mask, That's where the idea to do something "tiki" came from. I initially was going to build a little MOC using the mask with googly eyes, but then I got what is basically this idea, a large tiki mask with a totem pole body. The rest was execution. I built the mask/head first and this was the result on the first try. The body however proved very difficult. I went through several failed designs before I came to this. Purchasing a Core Hunter proved to be just what I needed to get me out of design gridlock. I then spent the next two days building the bulk of him, then tweaking the designs and filling in small gaps. |

OK, so let's get the good things out of the way as fast as possible, because there's a lot of bad to cover.
The concept is interesting, the face is genius, the use of the masks is well done, and it has some good engineering in the upper legs. Now, let's get the bad in here.
The arms are skinny, bare, ugly, and badly engineered. Not the kind of arms you'd see on a god of war. The shoulders are unarmored, which is definitely not what you think of when you think god of war.
The club is supposed to be made from shark teeth.....What? There's no shark teeth whatsoever on that club. It's black and red. Shark teeth are white, and red when covered in blood. The club looks more like a molten rock.
The lower legs really need something. They're so skinny, and have no armor on them. They really could use some kind of ankle armor.
The hands, OH THE HANDS. They're so skinny. He's this big god of war, with all this power, and strength, yet his hands look as if they belong on a smaller MOC. Finally, the back.
A good question would be, "why is he so fat?" A member of a tribe like this should be rather muscular, and somewhat devoid of food in the body, yet this guy has big chunky hips, and a big belly. He looks like he an entire bag of chips once a day.
The back is just so.....Bare. He has all this armor on the front, all these masks on his belly, yet NOTHING on his back besides some lazy Hero Factory armor. There's barely anything back there.
So yes, the MOC's vision is pretty good, and well researched, but the execution has many flaws, and needs work. There are some good ideas in here, but they really get overwhelmed by the bad.
Well first of all I'd love to say that this moc has a massive impact visual wise to begin with with the amount of colours and striking features just brings it out so much, like *wow*
Well to begin with the overal image is very striking. The abundance of colours may at first seem conflicting but together thay seemlessly together to form a great overalcolour code. The main elements of red with the purple hints work perfectly together with the black base.
The usage of masks here is also great and in the bio it even says that inspiration was taken from totem pole designs. I especially love the Dume masks on the feet, they work out great.
The overal build is quite good aswel and shows the fans another skill in which Dave has and that's diversity in structures. The face here really is magnificent and brings alot, and I mean ALOT of character to the creation. The tribal face is just perfectly executed and has very striking features to help ressemble those of native gods. I especially like the bones above the eyes to perhaps mimic a voodoo origin and the fire in the eyes for a symbols of power.
The club accesory is a simple but effective addittion to this moc. Not as complex or entirley striking as the main piece but still adds a fab little addittion to this creation.
I would normally complain about the odd proportions what with the large hips, bloated body, over-sized head and thin arms in comparrison but they work beautifully together here and cannot complain about these features at all because as a fact, these are some parts I like about it
Truly a magnificent ansd striking creation and another fine adittion to Daves collection, well done m8
