Description

Furnace got an upgrade! :woohoo: You can check out Furnace 1.0<- here.

Upgrading the MOC
The most notable upgrades are his legs, which were completely redone after I acquired a Black Phantom set. I also touched up his head a slight bit, and distributed a little armor to his shoulder mechanism. His pelvis was modified a little to accommodate the new legs. I originally intended his legs to be sturdier and a lot like Hero Factory titan legs when I built him, but lacked the parts to make them at the time. Its taken this long to get my hands on a titan set from HF. :P

About the MOC
Furnace is my first permanent Hero Factory MOC. In case you're wondering, those orange "canister/tank" parts on his arms are these, they're from the Mars Mission sets. I thought that having the fuel tanks on his back would be too obvious and typical, so they're in his arms. Now that I've got his legs the way I want them I am very satisfied with this MOC. It is honestly one of my favorite builds. His legs are very stable as you can see, even able to support his weight on one leg. I had a bit of difficulty deciding the armor configuration. The cool thing about this MOC is most of the HF armor can be taken off and replaced with a different variant of HF armor. I also decided to still keep the brackets for the canisters rather simple. I put armor on it, but it distracted from the look and called too much attention to that area, so less in more in that case I think. :)

Bio
Furnace is part of a series of prototype Mechanized Combat Cyborgs(MCC's). While his body is mostly robotic, a reprogrammed human brain supported by an artificial life support system is placed inside the Mech's head and integrated heavily into an AI program to give the AI the ability to learn, adapts and give it advanced processing abilities. The human organ is harvested from humans sentenced to death for committing crimes. The mind is chemically erased, then is put into a life support system while it undergoes AI integration training. Once fully integrated the mind is placed into the Mech and is activated.
Furnace how ever is different. He regained partial sentience due to his host's mind being more resilient to the chemical altering. The true cause of the regaining of sentience is unknown by the developers of the MBC's but it is speculated that it could be a result of the host's use of drugs. Furnace is one of two MCC's that gained sentience, an infantry unit gained full sentience, went rogue and escaped the the R&D facility where the MCC's were being developed. Instead of decommissioning him, the developers allowed Furnace to go after the rogue unit. The rogue Infantry unit is still at large with Furnace in pursuit.

MCC units are in production, but only contain the AI system without the human brain component. These standardized units are referred to as Mechanize Combat Units(MCu's). They are far less adaptable, are generally slower and unintelligent.
Furnace is an Incendiary unit. They are built larger and sturdier than their Infantry counterparts, are slower than Infantry units, yet are still more agile than the Armor subclass of Cavalry units. Their primary function is battlefield clearing, deforestation and heavy combat. A squad of Incendiary units typically accompany a platoon of cavalry units as they are strong enough to stand up to heavy fire and combat as well as being able to clear areas more efficiently than Cavalry units
Incendiaries are equipped with heat resistant armoring, duel flame throwers, and grapple barrel claws, appendages that can function as hands or gun barrels when straightened. Insendiaries have the distinct disadvantage of being able to carry less ammo in their ammo drums(the inverted tires) than even their Infantry counterparts, and also require liquid fuel for their throwers. How ever, when out of ammunition they are not completely powerless They can rely on hand to hand combat if needed. They also optimize their power sources by using thermo-electro conversion technology to take advantage of constantly being exposed to high temperature situations.

Furnace is based partly on designs from ~wolfbossx's Gatling
