Update 1/15/2012 New lower legs! The main update here is the integration of some system parts throughout to flush out some gaps and to add more solidity to the MOC. The calves were redone using system parts to fill in the gap in them, I added a little bit of system pieces to the sides of his torso just above the gear, 4X4 disks and an extra bohrok eye on his arms, replaced the dark grey Hordika forearms with black ones, and slightly redid his iron cross pendant since I found one of those rope pieces with two studs at each end that was pretty short.
Official Announcements Matteo is my semi-official self MOC. So if anyone is wondering what to consider my self MOC it will be him unless I build an official self MOC. This is also Matteo's official Main Deviation. This deviation will be updated when significant updates to the figure are made. Links Flickr<- this is where I'll post small updates when I change the designs ever so slightly. DeviantArt Folder Old youtube MOC review Short stop motion clip Theme song<-I feel its so fitting cause this game had some influence on this character and build. :3
Goggles design based off of ~wolfbossx's design. The lantern is also based off of a design of his but heavily modified by me.
Accessories include;Goggles, lantern, wrist watch, pendant necklace, ornate cane, messenger bag(with contents), large knife, belt(with holster for knife).
First, let's start off this critique just by saying this thing is pure genius.
The engineering is put together in such a way that none of the joints look loose or unstable, except the shoulder connectors, which should have a bit more bulk on them.
The anatomy of the MOC looks nice, clean, and makes sense, except for the shoulder connectors, the wrists, and ankles. Those need work.
The hat looks nice. REAL nice, and original. It's really hard to be original when using a skrall shield as a hat, and it's really hard to avoid it looking like a crappy Chinese straw hat, or the hat from that one guy from Mortal Kombat.
Now we move on to the real reason this MOC gets a good rating. The accessories are flowing with life and genius engineering. They really make this character stand out from the crowd of black and red generic MOCs. But, not is all well in the accessory department.
The accessories should be the pretty frills on the cake, not the frosting. The cake itself should look and taste nice before you start shining it up. This...Well, without the accessories it only looks kind of unique. This MOC really needs the accessories to look good, and that's not a good thing. It shouldn't have to rely on them. The base MOC comes first.
Yes, it needs work, but no MOC is perfect. It looks great, and earns the rating I give it.
this one is better than hyde, but i still dont see this as being a decent moc.
Vision: the vision here is nice, but that big cheesy watch looks turrible and the overall moc is not... good
Originality: as far as i know, there arent many witch doctor mocs, but characters and concepts for mocs are almost endless, so that doesnt count for much, and the skeleton is looking similar to alot of mocs ive seen in the past.
Technique: the build is too simple here; the skeleton with double jointed knees and elbows are ok, but you didnt do much in the way of armoring to compensate for the large joints; you should have tried to partially cover them or directly armor them in my opinion. the armor on this one is sub par, and boring, the armor gives no interesting shape and serves as nothing but "filler" the feet are overlly simple, the hand pieces on the hips are bare and lazy looking, and the arms are WAY too simple; those forearms could not be more simple, and the upper arms dont really fit the theme of the moc. the shape is bad, and the moc is far too simple; please work on more complicated, intricate designs.
Impact: it was ok, but again i was all: " dayum these shapes be turrrrrrrrrible"
sorry, man, but this is not an average moc, its actually well below average
I'd be happy to give you my thoughts, but I really think you should finish the MOC first before getting any real critiques or feedback on it. Build what you think works in the direction you think it should go, and then see what you've got as the end result.
So I'm not saying no, I'm happy to give a full critique once its finished. I will say that what you've got already looks promising. Just trust your gut and go with what feels right.
